Oval Lab Created Diamond

Its extremely important when looking at the Oval to consider what attributes make some Ovals better than others. Due to the large surface area and many facets both colour and clarity are equally important however the cut is also extremely important. The symmetry and length to width ratio are considered to be one of the most important attributes when looking at ovals and often determine how much sparkle is produced. The ideal length to width ratio many consider to be 1.35 to 1.5, this coupled with an excellent polish should produce an ideal Oval.

Choosing an Oval can be more challenging compared with a Round as there are a few more things to consider. This shape more than others needs some consideration and discussing options with a qualified Jeweller is often a great place to start and even get to see some first hand.

While this shape has been a classic for decades and is most popular in a solitaire or with accents it is now gaining more popularity. Often the Round Brilliant has been the most expensive of the cuts due to its popularity and the fact that is has the biggest waste yield. Meaning it will often take more material (rough Diamond) to get a great Round Brilliant. We’ve seen the Oval creep up in price recently however, solely due to the many celebrities sporting the shape in various settings.

Of course price hasn’t been the only concern for many young shoppers. Some buyers have opted for a more ethically and environmentally sustainable Diamond alternative. The Oval Lab Created Diamond is grown meaning they are created and not mined making them 100% ethically sourced. When considering the huge social impact and environmental footprint mining can have, lab grown Diamonds are an ethical choice and often the only choice for conscientious couples.

Even though the Oval is slightly less expensive than the high yield round brilliant it is still considerably more than the Lab Grown alternative which in essence is the same as natural Diamonds. Besides the benefit of the price difference, Lab Diamonds are a 10 on the Moh’s scale of hardness. This is the same position as natural Diamonds and due to fact that they are essentially formed the same way they are virtually exactly the same albeit just sped up by a billion years. This is quite a wait when comparing the process to create Lab Diamonds which takes around 25 – 30 days including the cutting.

Either way the Oval is a classic, elegant shape and whether looking for natural Diamonds or Lab grown Diamonds, this shape will continue to be in style.
