Conflict Free Diamonds

The term Conflict Free Diamonds is used quite a lot these days as buyers looking to buy genuine Diamonds often have to consider the social impact they are having. In turn Diamond traders and sellers need to provide accurate details on how the Diamonds they are trading were mined.

A conflict Free Diamond is a Diamond that is mined without connection to terror groups or rebels. After the continued conflict in Africa there was a need to regulate the Diamond Trade. The Kimberly Process is a partnership between the Diamond Industry and the United Nations to put in place regulations and restrictions to ensure Diamonds ae mined ethically and humanely. Diamonds that fall outside this process are known as “Blood Diamonds” these Diamonds often come from war-torn areas and are traded illegally.

The Diamond industry has had a major crack down on the ethical mining of Diamonds but it is hard to guarantee where they come from. Some less fortunate communities in African who mine using primitive equipment as a means of earning money operate outside the legal processes. The often use unsafe methods that do harm to themselves and significate damage to the environment. In some areas children are utilized as workers also to help bring in extra for the family.

It is also hard to over look the environmental impact mining has. For these reasons socially conscious buyers are turning to alternatives. Often large Diamond mines cover hundreds of square kilometres which cause soil erosion, deforestation and eco system destruction. This damage is often irreparable and has long lasting effects to the major surrounding areas.

The main alternative is the Lab Created Diamond which many young buyers are falling in love with not only because of the ethical and environmentally conscious way they are produced but also because of the price tag.

As Lab Created Diamonds are Lab Grown, their source can always be traced and they are completely ethically sourced. They are also environmentally friendly as they are not mined. This is a huge draw card compared with naturally mined Diamonds. The price has also been an added bonus with comparable Diamonds at up to 60% off the price of their naturally mined counterpart.

Its no wonder many young couples are turning to the Lab Created Diamond and are also making them their first choice.
